Jim's Vision

I know first hand what it's like to drink from the "learning-firehose" while fighting off impostor syndrome and competing for influence in this sport called business.

My passion is collecting what I call my "Best Ofs". I collect them, curate the lessons, and most importantly share them with others.

I'm the person who kept his college textbooks and still reference them (Statistics!). I still stare at my physical library shelf of best of business books and pull one down on regular occasions.

So when I was handed an S-1 at the age of 27 and told to go lead the process for Intuit's IPO and was put in a room with Fenwick, Wilson Sonsini, EY, Goldman, Morgan Stanley and others, I added everything I was learning to my "Best Ofs". I knew I needed to quickly learn it, do it, and knew I'd be referencing these lessons far into my future career. I didn't know at the time I'd be "Coaching It" but maybe my subconscious did at the time.

When John Doerr, Bill Campbell, or Reid Hoffman spoke or showed me something, I treated it as "Gold". I wrote their lessons down, collected them, treasured them. I knew these were priceless lessons back then. They remain so today.

From Intuit to Netflix to Mozilla, I've never stopped collecting, curating, and sharing. I hate learning things more than once. One of my Dad's key lessons to me at a very early age was "Learning the same thing three times is the only real definition of failing".

I'm now at the stage of my career where my work is to coach, advise and influence the next generation of startup executives and teams...Bill Campbell style. I'm passionate about paying it all forward. I believe every great operator leaves behind a better playbook.

Welcome to this website. To me, it's more than a "site". I want it to be the front door to a deeper library collection from not just me but from a growing membership community who curate and share their own "Best Ofs".

A place where community learning compounds. A place where what's here is worth more every month than it was the month before. A place where together we build the Silicon Valley equivalent of the Medici Library. I fundamentally believe we are living in an equivalent Technological Renaissance to the Medici period. I believe our current journey and our collective learning will be reflected on with the same awe.
